The Story So Far
Sammy Rat's Big Big Blues Band were originally formed in 1986. Following in the wake of the cult of the Blues Brothers, they moulded their sound on the likes of American artists such as Elmore James, Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf, but with a generous dose of British-influenced blues from the likes of Eric Clapton, early Fleetwood Mac and Paul Jones and the Blues Band. The band gigged heavily across the South East of England, calling it a day in the mid 1990s after hundreds of gigs.
Reformed in 2005 and gigging regularly ever since, including performances at Guilfest in 2006 and 2007, the band have gone back to basics over the last year by adding an acoustic repertoire to their already extensive songbook. Branded as Sammy Rat and The Resonators, this new lineup features acoustic instruments and four-part harmonies. Drawing on traditional American songs that include pre-war blues, alternative country, gospel, and on through to the West Coast sounds of the 1960s and 70s, a British perspective is also maintained with songs from the 1960s era of the Kinks and the Small Faces through to various contemporary artists.
Whether you like electric blues or acoustic roots, Sammy Rat and the band never fail to deliver.
